Women: Trying To Conceive & Pregnancy
Good dental hygiene is important and regular cleaning and check-ups are essential for women. This is especially true if you are trying to conceive or are pregnant. Gum diseases and generally the health of gums worsen during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. Because during pregnancy, estrogen levels are increased, women should start to seek dental treatment for any pre-existing dental or periodontal problems before she starts to conceive. Additionally, couples who plan on using assisted reproductive technologies such as IVF should visit their dentist prior to treatment as hormones administered as part of their treatment can exacerbate preexisting periodontal conditions that might affect the patient’s overall health.
